Night Out

Too late to wonder

if you were right about vaudeville

after the ragtime Pantaloon

you gasp at the acrobats

performing triple somersaults

like a streak of stars–

now your pocket’s empty

of those jangling dimes

you won’t learn Shakespeare

at the Yiddish Rialto

or  watch muving pikshurs

but you’re dizzy with the thrill.

Note : In the winter of 1912 the Lorch Family worked on vaudeville in New York
